G Alston,
Why do you assume I am in favor of social conservatism in politics, I am not. We are in agreement. Do not assume--we know what happens when people do that. You should level your tone.

Tacitus -- "Conservatism won on the ballots in California, and if it can work here it and work anywhere."

It didn't win in CA. The prop 8 vote was brought to you courtesy of Obama voters -- primarily hispanics and blacks. The general vote for candidates lost big. Republicans were stomped. There are no republican senators on the west coast or the northeast. "Conservatism" in the sense you wrote translates to "social conservatism" and continuing on that path will lead to even bigger losses.

Need proof I'm right? No problem. An abortion ban in red state South Dakota was stomped. SD didn't vote for Obama. It's about as red state as you can get. And yet, the "conservative" issue lost. Continued emphasis on "social conservative" issues will guarantee that the republican party is permanently relegated to minority status.

Gary -- "As long as politicians on this side can keep the government out of people’s private lives..."

Keeping government out of people's lives is the exact OPPOSITE of what social "conservatism" is all about. This needs to be dropped.

We should just try to make sure government leaves us alone, and that's it. That's the only value, besides protecting our liberties, that the government should be concerned with representing.

As long as politicians on this side can keep the government out of people's private lives completely, not just talk the talk and then change once its time to vote on the floor, our side will prevail. But if the big government impulses don't get kicked out for good, there's no chance.

Here's one more thought:
I think that conservative leadership have failed because conservative grassroots have not been there to provide them direction. When you send these folks to Washington- they will get caught up in the culture unless they remember the folks to whom they serve.
Rather than blaming them for the failures, it's time to be responsible for making our government represent our values.

I am SO glad that you have this petition... I was just thinking... we need to start to petition congress.
Here's my thought: Let's get a group to call up every conservative talk show host and get them promoting to petition. At the least- free radio advertising for this site!
They are all anti-bailout.... between all of them we could reach 20 million people in the next week. If we get 500,000 signatures it will be a start.
Look - our message - when heard will win over the hearts and minds of our fellow citizens. We just must make it heard!!

Darren, I didn't see anyone saying that "liberty, freedom and responsible gov't" had become "outmoded themes". You're reading to fast dude.

I would like to help in BIG, BLUE Pennsylvania!!! I wanted to start a grassroots movement myself but found you on Redstate.com. I will bring some volunteers with me to your site. I am ready, eager and willing to do this. We need to get in the swing of things and bring a new face to the Conservative movement. I have some ideas. I have run my own 501c3 historical, educational organization for the past 13 years now. I know a little bit about press releases, organization, events, and so forth. No schooling in this, so I won't kid you, just a drive to see a NEW DAY in AMERICA! I think state editor for PA would be fine. I'll help elsewhere with ideas...Love your logo!

I don't think we, any of us, are trying to "catch up", we are just trying to USE the tools we have to do such things as get info. out, create and serve communities, and, well, LOTS of other things that these "One Big System" whores have not even FATHOMED are possible.

We are AT LEAST 100 million strong, we will not be corralled, but you can be sure that we will work as ONE in more ways than anyone thought were pissbile in the past.

Loof out lefties, "you're ass is grass".

As usual, the right is playing catch up. MoveOn can't be recreated or imitated on the right. The two sides have too many differences

1. Most people on the right work for a living and cannot afford to volunteer much time, even for the cause of freedom. (Lefties are able and willing to not work for a living for a 'cause' they believe in--hence their grassroots army is huge)
2. The right is woefully under-funded in comparison to the left (they have billionaires and Hollywood multimillionaires willing to give mad money, influence, and star power--the right's donor base is fickle, older and usually prefers anonymity) (also, how many of even us types, give 5 or 10 dollars regularly to the cause--I would venture not many)
3. The right is not skilled in dealing with the media effectively--its always combative (the left has mastered it)
4. The right has dropped the ball as far as attracting more new members to the movement. Youth and minorities should be convinced that this side's views are in their interest.

Let's get out in front of important issues, and use them as a vehicle to drive the grassroots movement. Unfortunately, most of the issues that create major groundswell among this side are not the economic freedom issues. Usually its stuff like immigration, gay marriage or something that further marginalizes the movement.
We need a lot of money, and strategic focused spending plans for that money.
We need to focus on media, technology, outreach and education.
