No Auto Industry Bailouts!

US Congress and Secretary Paulson,

A free market is a market in which property rights are voluntarily exchanged at a price arranged completely by the mutual consent of sellers and buyers. If the seller, or the buyer, finds that a business decision has less than desirable consequences, we believe it is the responsibility of the party involved to find a solution to the problem.

Forcing taxpayers to pay for bad business decisions is not the solution. Nor is it the American way.

When our elected officials choose to spend our money in an effort to interfere with the free market system, without our direct consent, we strongly consider it to be an act that is against the will of the American people.

If you vote to inject taxpayer dollars in to the private sector to bail businesses out of the result of bad decisions, clearly, you are voting against the American foundations of free markets. We, the people, did not get them into this mess and we should not be responsible for getting them out.

I demand the Congress and Secretary Paulson act AGAINST any and all bail outs of the private sector. We understand that the argument for this bail out is that it will ultimately be cheaper than if jobs were lost in this economy. However, the question needs to be asked, "Where will this stop?"

If you support this, I will do everything in my power to remove you from office before you can give away any more of our money to failed businessmen.

Signed,

Isaac K,
"As an economist, I am torn between the sensible and logical desire for a truly free and efficient market without intervention, and the moralistic well-being for my fellow man. But it is clear: Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime, Teach a man to beg, and he will forever be dependent. Yes, short term job losses will not be so positive, but freeing up the market to fair competition and expansion can only be beneficial. People can and do retrain themselves to take new jobs, and those with the greatest skills will be picked up by the other auto companies. While fearing for the security of the worker is "noble," to do so solely through providing bailouts to the wealthy is clear folly."

Tommy Stedham,
"I'm not without compassion for people, and it's not good when businesses go belly up and people lose their jobs. I'm not heartless. But I just don't think the bailouts are the way to go. We need to let businesses and consumers pay the consequences for their poor decisions. I don't feel responsible for bailing out Wall Street or Main Street. I don't expect anybody to pay my bills, so why should other people expect me to pay theirs?"

"Who knows the entire national budget in 1881 was million? Now it is trillions. This whole affair is sheer idiocy."

Scott Brooks,
"Let them declare bankruptcy and reorganize like companies normally do. The only guys who really lose out are the self interested bureaucrats in Washington and the big union bosses. "

Tony McKay,
"I'm just wondering who will be the next industry with the tin cup in their hand."

Kimberly Mullins,
"No auto bailout!!!! We need to reboot and start over. NoUAW!!!!! Ridiculous wages and benefits. Bailouts must stop all together! My parents didn't bail me out when I got into trouble and I"m better and stronger for it. "

Kimberly,
"Tough Love for the auto industry. Some businesses fail, some survive. Let the Free Market work thru the mess on its own. Throwing money & bailing out failing companies will not fix this. If you continue to bail these companies out, I will boycott all of their products and will make sure everyone I know does the same."

Paul Schaffer,
"It's time to break the stronghold of the UAW on the American consumer."

Thomas Iiams,
"Dont use my tax dollar to bail out the automakers, What next you going to go bail out the oil companys ? How about the farmers?"

Shannon Turner,
"You have already trampled on the US Constition by taking federal funds and distributing how you see fit. YOU ARE NOT TO TAKE FROM ME, HERE IN KY, TO GIVE TO DETROIT, PERIOD! KIA, HONDA, TOYOTA ARE DOING GREAT IN OTHER STATES. WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO TAKE FROM THEM TO GIVE TO THE FAILING? Every last one of you that voted in agreement with this bailout and the Paulson/Wall St. bailout should all have charges pressed against you. YOUR JOBS ARE IN JEOPARDY!"

Brett Bloxsom,
"Stop meddling in the market. Free Markets are the only way to correct all of our messes."

"Please give us back our money if you can't be responsible."

"I oppose any and ALL bailouts. The FREE MARKET is the only REAL answer to save this country, possibly the world. I have told my representatives: Saxby Chambliss, Johnny Isaakson and Phil Gingrey. So far, Gingrey is the only one making listening... of course there is a group of us in his office on a regular basis. In Liberty, Natalie from Georgia"

Alicia Mathewson,
"Give all american over age 18 their share of the 18 billion dollar, see how much trouble the country is in then."

Wayne Ritchie,
"Should ANY bailout of Detroit automakers come to pass, I swear that for the rest of my life I will not purchase, or recommend for purchase, any vehicle manufactured by a company participating in the bailout."

Christa,
"Let them declaire chapter 13 and re-organize, that is what the airlines did and they are coming back. If you do vote to pass this, the line for bailouts will never end, not to mention this is a socialist view. I vote for the free market. "

"I WILL NOT VOTE FOR A SENATOR THAT SIGNS THE AUTO BAILOUT... BAILOUTS TO NOT WORK!"

xxxxxxxx,
"The UAW is the reason American automakers are near bankruptcy. Giving the auto companies our tax money while the unions operate under "business as usual" is unfair and will change nothing. As tough as it may be, the car companies should be allowed to fail so they can resume their business based on successful industry models and NOT handouts by the government or the American people. The union contracts must be renegotiated to be more in line with foreign automakers and good business sense. It is NOT the responsibilities of Americans to bail out any organization that has for years wallowed in profit and now is suffering for being short-sighted. These bailouts are setting a terrible precedent. Americans cannot afford this "solution.""

kenneth upton

Carolyn Doak,
"The big three auto maker have been arrogant and lazy for the past 30 years. While the rest of us have suffered through numerous peaks and valleys, they and their union employees have been in lala land. Businesses who fail to keep up with the times deserve to go out of business. It's time..Let them go!!"

xxxxxxxx,
"Let them fail to rework their horrible union contracts and better their business model for the long term. If you give a mouse a cookie, it is going to want some milk..."

xxxxxxxx,
"It sounds scary to have the three large American Automakers "go under". It sounds incalculably more frightening to have the U.S. government involved again in businesses. I do not know where it will end. Will the Government be at my child’s daycare? I am very afraid of this intervention for my children and their children."
